What is the Retro World Series?

The Retro World Series is the premiere name for classic gaming tournaments. From the first-time player to professionals, the Retro World Series offers the opportunity to experience classic gaming at its finest. Over four days, the Retro World Series 2016 Main Event will feature tournaments for the Atari 2600, Atari 7800, NES, SNES, & Sega Genesis. There will also be vendors, free arcades, and a cash bar. The Retro World Series will also host Satellite Tournaments at several conventions across the country.

What is the schedule?

A more detailed schedule will be released later, but the tentative, general schedule is as follows:
Thursday, Aug 11 – Group Day 1
Friday, Aug 12 – Group Day 2 & Elimination Day 1
Saturday, Aug 13 – Elimination Day 2
Sunday, Aug 14 – Semifinals & Finals
Each day will go from roughly 8am in the morning to 10pm at night. The semifinals and finals for each tournament will all be held on Sunday.

How do you define 'retro'?

We know the argument over what is considered retro or classic will rage on for eons, but for the Retro World Series we define retro as cartridge-based games from the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s.

Can I use my own controller?

No. All controllers will be provided. Please check each tournament to find out which controller will be used.

Why not *insert console* or *insert game*?

Each year will bring different games and, eventually, different consoles. We hope to add many more consoles such as the Neo Geo, Turbo Grafx/PC Engine, Nintendo 64, Colecovision, and Intellivision.

Is it okay to come if I just want to watch?

Yes. You are welcome to come watch others compete, play the free arcades, or shop the vendors. Day passes will be available online or at the gate for $10 per day. You can also purchase an all-tournament pass online for $25. Go to to get your spectator pass.
